Flare Data Connector (FDC): Attesting External Events on Flare
This episode introduces the Flare Data Connector (FDC), a new protocol on the Flare network. The FDC enables users to request the on-chain verification of external events by Flare's data providers. This contrasts with the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO), which continuously provides price data. The FDC operates through attestation requests, a consensus process called bit voting, and a system of rewards and penalties to ensure accurate and reliable event confirmation. This functionality allows decentralised applications on Flare to utilise a broader range of off-chain information with the security of Flare's underlying consensus.
